Alternative Health Theory
Disease is big business. We used to do research funded by the government, but that has nearly disappeared. There is no public domain research done because the funding has been pulled or diverted to such useful things as price support for corn for ethanol and other hare-brained government schemes.
Logically, the private corporations that are funding the research need to get a return on their investment. Present regulations further compound the problem by forcing the manufacturer to provide a narrowly defined proof that a "drug" is able to "cure" a specific "diagnosis".
No-one other a licensed medical practitioner can subscribe a "drug" that would cure or mitigate a condition. So if you happen to find out that cherries prevent heart disease, you are not allowed to publish it on a website that promotes cherries, because that would turn them into drugs.
Most research dollars are invested in drugs that are treating “symptoms”. They are keeping you sick by not addressing the core problem, and they are often creating a new set of symptoms, known as side effects.
Natural products are not guaranteed to cure anything. They are supposed to strengthen your body by either supplying nutrients that you are missing or by removing toxins that should not be there.
People have come to call this approach “alternative” treatment, “natural” therapy, or as the pharma marketing machine has managed to portray it, “quack” medicine. The medical and pharmaceutical single point of cure method likes to call it "unproven" due to the lack of double-blind studies done in clinical research centers. But consider this: when something is "unproven" does not mean that it has been "disproved"? What of an alternative that works, is inexpensive to manufacture, has little or no side effects, is natural, and is not patentable? It is likely going to STAY unproven by traditional science, medicine, and drug companies, because they will not spend money to prove effectiveness of something they can't recoup their investment on. The logical solution would be to fund public domain medical research, but that can only happen when the government is responsible for the health of its citizens.
Every alternative health practitioner has to cover his or her legal behind by recommend that you "speak with your physician, or someone who is qualified to give you medical advice", and knows your very unique health situation.
Alternative health practitioners and their supplements are not regulated by the FDA. The FDA only regulates drugs, and only drugs regulated by the FDA are allowed to make claims. THAT is why you always see a disclaimer on nutritional products.
Using alternatives, or adjuncts to traditional medicine is not holistic medicine. That's just chasing symptoms with supplements, but thinking of them as if they were drugs. You need to think system-wide, not narrow-focused.
You may want to add a whole food, potent liquid nutritional product for easily absorbed vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants to further enhance your body's fighting engine. You may want to attack pain and inflammation with a detoxifying product. You may want to cleanse, and detox with herbal supplements, keep your intestines healthy with living organisms, and keep your blood sugar level under control with fiber and plant sterols. Many different tools need to be used to keep away from disease and to embrace wellness.
May your journey to health include the natural and logical alternative health tools. Alternative to what?
