Act now, before your right to choose is gone. Don't sit around, and find
yourself saying in a year or so, "I could have stopped this, if only ... I could
have ... I should have ... and I didn't!"
Our Time Is Running Out!

Even as you read this, our health freedom rights are severely endangered.
Access to necessary nutritional supplements and herbs are about to be
drastically limited. In most cases, many of these items could be totally
curtailed if a special interest agenda, from an international organization that
has been carefully planning this for over 40 years, is allowed to succeed:
The United Nations Codex Alimentarius Commission!
Formed in 1962, "CODEX" was initially set up as a joint program of the WHO
(World Health Org) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Its
original mandate was to establish a "harmonized trade standard" to govern
international sales of all food products all over the world, especially in Third
World countries. In fact, "standards harmonization" quietly became a
bureaucratic euphemism for establishing "one universal standard" for supplements
world-wide -- enabling key mega-pharmaceutical companies to more efficiently
(translate "more profitably") ultimately control world-wide production and
distribution of all critically needed health products.
It would be easy to write this off as just another "loony conspiracy theory,"
instead of what it really is - a long term plan motivated by that common
denominator, greed.
The center of world-wide pharmaceutical production for over half a century
has been Germany. Germany, the European Union (EU) member country, which hosts
the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Use, is at the
forefront of this accelerating plan (see below) to railroad our dietary
supplement laws into final "international harmonization." Now, is it just
"coincidental" that the one Nation that dominates the EU is ... Germany?
The only reliable vehicle to get the word out on this developing agenda has
been the Internet. John Hammell, of International Advocates for Health Freedom,
has been fighting diligently for over 10 years to protect our rights and provide
comprehensive world wide coverage of this corporate agenda at:
www.iahf.com, where you can sign on to the
IAHF email distribution list for updates. A wealth of information is there,
chronicling and documenting all aspects of this major, yet almost unknown battle
for these vital supplements over many years.
This is what you can do to help:
The Alliance for Natural Health,
based in England, has brought the only effective lawsuit to challenge these
European Union Directives targeting a list of specific nutritional supplements
and herbs for "control and removal from the marketplace." If these
Directives which have become law, are not overturned, buying more than highly
limited amounts of a carefully restricted selection of key supplements will be
illegal -- not just in Europe, but (because of international agreements -- see
below) in the United States!
Like Prohibition, if this is passed you will go to jail -- for even
attempting to buy more than small, prescribed amounts of supplements in the
flourishing black market that is sure to develop here in the wake of the EU's
current efforts -- if they become law.
The ANH website has a
Worldpay button where donations can be made to enable the lawsuit to
proceed. This is our last chance to stop the steamroller that is heading for the
United States. We must make sure the EU Directive is overturned! We must fight
now. Codex could very well be finalized by November, 2004 in Bonn,
Germany.

Let's not have nutritional supplements such as boron, vanadium, mixed
tocopherols, DHEA, essential fatty acids, sulphur , MSM and many others, no
longer available. We do NOT want natural formulations replaced with synthetics
that are NOT the equivalent. We do NOT want simple and safe vitamins such as
Vitamin C, limited to "a milligram amount ,"available only in amounts below 200
mgs! For here is where the agenda becomes clear: the reduced milligram amounts
for this and other supplements translates to MORE money for the
mega-pharmaceutical corporations -- because of greater volume sales to
consumers, who will seek to maintain their critical levels of supplementation at
almost any cost. Simple supply and demand.
We desperately need to maintain our UNRESTRICTED access to a wide variety of
herbal supplements that have been safely used for centuries by cultures all
around the world! The Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive and the
Pharmaceuticals Directive will go into effect if the FSD is not overturned. This
in turn threatens to turn any substance with any physiologic effect in the body
into a "drug." It would turn WATER into a "drug," and then attempt to regulate
its use!
Germany, Italy and France already have an active black market for the many of
the restricted nutritional supplements, no longer available in Europe. Many
people there are trying to order supplements by mail. Unfortunately, even these
methods which are illegal in those countries, will become more difficult to use
as current loopholes are eliminated by the proposed new Directives, and
restrictions tightened further.
Your giant pharmaceutical companies of which Bayer, Pfizer and Roche are just
a few examples, are major contributors to many political campaigns worldwide,
which enable them to maintain their positions of power and control of these
world markets. The recent book, "The Selling of the President," documents the
history of the George W. Bush 2000 campaign which ultimately received major "pharma
funding" from companies like these.
Pharmaceutical companies actively try to isolate what they consider to be the
active ingredient of herbs. Once these can be isolated and synthesized, patents
can be obtained, leading to more control of supply, more revenue, and much
higher prices for consumers. Unfortunately, the health benefits are no longer
equal.
The whole concept of "standardization and isolation" from an individual herb,
is harmful or even ineffective. It is the synergistic effect of all the aspects
of an herb, occurring together in nature, that brings about the most efficacious
and safe results. Results that work! Otherwise, you're creating drugs.
While Codex claims to also protect consumers with these standards, they are
actually (and obviously) safeguarding the economic profit interests for the
large multinational corporations. All, ultimately, at the expense of the
consumer. The UN Codex process is being dominated by these large Multinationals.
Voting for members has been structured to provide "one vote per country,"
regardless of size or the amount of manufacturing taking place within that
country. So, you have a situation where even the smallest nations that do not
manufacture dietary supplements will have as much say as countries (such as the
United States) hundreds of times larger.
The European Union consists of 25 member countries, as of May 1, 2004. The EU
member countries currently providing freer access to supplements are England,
Ireland, Sweden and Holland. Hopefully, from the preceeding details, you can now
see how easily the current rights and access these countries wish to preserve
for their own citizens soon will be forced into "harmonization" with the greater
number of members in the EU via this "one vote, one country" rule, regardless of
the wishes of those citizens.
The Uruguay round of Global Agreements on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) created
the World Trade Organization as a control mechanism to force countries to adopt
an international standard. Before the WTO, this was by voluntary agreement; once
the WTO was formed, the international standards became mandatory for these
countries and had to be adopted as their own.
For example, the only legal option for refusing to adopt a Codex WTO vitamin
standard over a country's own laws, is on the basis of "safety "(an "SPS
agreement"). But all disputes of jurisdiction and alleged violations are
adjudicated in a new international Court, outside the US, created by the WTO
itself. This presents a major problem for US citizens, as this international WTO
Court does NOT follow our Constitutional "rules of evidence!" The WTO Court
(known officially as the "Dispute Settlement Body") is therefore obviously
rigged to uphold the interests of certain multinational corporations, regardless
of contrary existing evidence, corporations which will increasingly profit from
their ever tighter restrictions and control of supplements, including in this
Court.
The Court is made up of members from some very diverse countries. This is
good, because it would tend to reduce "bloc voting." But, the WTO Court --
unlike court rulings here -- makes its rulings in secret! This is bad ... very
bad indeed.
To give you a vivid example: we -- that is you and me -- are not permitted in
this Court, presided over by the Dispute Settlement Body of the WTO. The
proceedings cannot be watched. Private citizens have NO "standing" to appear
before this court as witness or plaintiffs, no matter how technically qualified
they are. The only way for a private citizen to appear, would be if both
conflicting parties were in agreement to allow it. This has never happened. For
the most part, the only people with standing to appear before this Court are
representatives of WTO member nations.
If the EU Food Service Directive (FSD) is not overturned with this pending
ANH legal action, which is currently moving up the path to the European Court of
Justice via the Alliance for Natural Health lawsuit, it is more than possible
that there will be enough countries to overrule the United States at Codex,
where many parts of the FSD will be used when international vitamin laws are
finally codified. The EU FSD has banned 300 ingredients used in the manufacture
of 5,000 products, forcing them to be watered down to the point of
ineffectiveness. The FSD puts the vitamin industry into a regulatory
straightjacket which kills innovation in the industry. Once a Codex vitamin law
is finalized, it will supercede all US supplement laws -- via the other
international agreements that former US Presidents have signed.
Did that come across? Let me repeat this: once a Codex Vitamin law is
finalized, it will supercede all US supplement laws. It is horrific to even
consider this.
Remember what networking is all about. Share this information. Congress
turned their backs on us once before, on March 20, 2001, when they whitewashed
the Codex Oversight Hearing Committee that had been strongly recommended by
International Advocates for Health as an opportunity to protect our rights.
Because of this congressional inaction, the White House's Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) set up the USA to lose in a future WTO dispute, via which
all our vitamin laws can be limited to a grossly restrictive international Codex
standard.
The only chance we have of stopping this agenda, is by donating support to
the ANH lawsuit!! The *PRIORITY* is support of the ANH lawsuit, with your
donations, to overturn the FSD in the European Court. This lawsuit can be won.
Numerous errors were made in the FSD because it was drafted by bureaucrats with
poor knowledge of the European Union law. It is legally vulnerable and we can
win!
Previous efforts made by writing to your Congressman were disregarded.
Remember, large pharmaceutical companies make large donations to support
political campaigns. What chance is there for your representatives to go against
this system? Let's put them to the test! Try again and try harder! Make the
phone calls, send your letters and faxes. Please copy me by email and letter (no
faxes, please) so we can track the results of your requests, made to your

vitamin access. It was quite effective as it portrayed a S.W.A.T. team bursting
into his kitchen, complete with M16s and German Shepherds, as he innocently
