MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) = Bio-Available Sulfur

Modern diseases are often linked to mineral deficiency, a consequence of foods grown on depleted soils. Sulfur is one of the most important minerals, right after sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and chlorine. Sulfur is essential in the structure of amino acids and in cellular oxygen transport. It is also very important for detoxification of heavy metals. Cellular regeneration (healthy miosis and mitosis) is closely linked with your body’s ability to transport oxygen across the cell membrane. Elements shown to facilitate oxygen transport are very few, only sulfur, selenium, and tellurium.

Oxygen transport at the cellular level requires crossing of the cell membrane, and bio-available organic sulfur is the primary facilitator. MSM is not the yellow mineral sulfur from mining and it is not related to allergy-causing sulfa drugs. Plants can produce organic sulfur, mammals including people can’t. We must ingest sufficient quantities of organic sulfur every day. MSM (the supplement we offer) is concentrated from plants. Pure 100% bio-available MSM is made either in food grade or pharmaceutical quality. Pure MSM contains only carbon, oxygen, and sulfur.

Sulfur In Nature

Sulfur in its mineral state is yellow, in its organic bio-available form (MSM) it is white. Elemental sulfur is present in volcanic emission, as smelly gasses (h3S, SO2, SO3), or when dissolved in water, as acids. Under-water volcanoes (known as “black smokers”) emit sulfur that dissolves in ocean water. Sulfur deposits on dry land react with rain and underground water and become part of nature’s cycle, feeding microscopic life forms and plants. Bio-available sulfur (not the yellow mineral) is consumed by animals and people in the form bound in plants.

Sulfur in its organic form is involved four critically important aspects of our existence:

  • facilitate the detoxification of heavy metals
  • effectively enable the transport of oxygen across the cell membrane
  • foster healthy cell regeneration
  • act as the key agent in the effective utilization of amino acids

Amino acids are the body’s building blocks, of which about 70% are sulfur based. Four of the more crucial amino acids, methionine, cystine, cysteine, and taurine, can’t effectively function without organic sulfur. To build healthy tissue, you require pure bio-available sulfur – MSM. The best organic sulfur (methyl-sulfonyl-methane) made from DMSO. In the pure, large flake form (not capsules) no fillers, anti-caking agents, or preservatives are added.

MSM Supplements

Most MSM products, be it pills, capsules, or finely powdered form, have been processed after precipitation, making it less effective. Encapsulation process requires additives, especially silica (SiO2) used as a flow agents. To be healthy, your body needs to utilize ingested sulfur. The bio-available form, MSM, must be in the biologically “available” (hence bio-available) form. Agricultural business of industrialized countries removed bio-available sulfur from food with the introduction of chemical fertilizers. Since 1954, organic sulfur was virtually eliminated from our diets, with disastrous consequences for our health.

All MSM (organic sulfur) is manufactured through a chemical process in a chemical production facility. It is not expensive to make. Drug manufacturers appreciate the play on the word “organic” – in chemistry, molecules containing carbon are “organic”. The chemically produced product can be legally labeled as organic. All MSM is originally made in a chemical process. “Black liquor” is a by-product of the pulp and paper industry. There is a similar product from the petrochemical industry.

From this black liquor, a chemical company extracts DMSO that should be more accurately called DMSO1. With heat and and the addition of a few chemicals we can precipitate pure DMSO2. DMSO2 is methyl-sulfonyl-methane (MSM) or organic sulfur. All organic sulfur is chemically referred to as DMSO2 and is precipitated out of DMSO1. Some companies promote lignin as an important component of their “better” MSM. Naturally occurring lignin is present in tree cells and gives the tree its “rigid” form – lignin ads structure to the tree cells. It provides fiber that is most likely not digestible.

Powdered vs. Encapsulated MSM

Contaminants: Because of its “atomic make-up” (ions, protons, electric charges, etc.), sulfur reacts easily with other substances. MSM is affected in a negative way whenever it is “packaged” in pills or capsules, processed into a powder, or combined with other products. It becomes less efficient and cannot be as effectively utilized for cellular oxygen transport, cellular health, amino acid production, and is less efficient as a detoxifying agent.

Processing: Best MSM is made by clean precipitation of DMSO1 to DMSO2, where the sulfur molecule takes on an extra oxygen molecule and solidifies. MSM can be negatively affected by air pollutants, chemicals, flow-agents, additives, pill bonding agents, pill coatings, the container it’s stored in, other nutrients it is mixed with, and the ingredients of creams and gels, if in a skin cream.

Clumping: Pure MSM tends to clump in chunks or “cakes”. This is natural; and it makes life difficult for encapsulation. Flow agents or “anti-caking” agents (usually silica) are mixed with most available MSM. Silica is very inexpensive and significantly increases the volume of “MSM”. Most manufacturers declare silica as harmless and inert, keeping MSM with silica as “organic”.

As an effective insulator (silicon chips) silica (SiO2) interrupts the dynamic body energy (electric) processes. Otto Warburg proved that cancer in humans is anaerobic. Warburg began his study of cancer in 1920 in plants and humans, and received the Nobel Prize for his research in 1931. Anaerobic, by definition, is cellular metabolism without oxygen – cells in permanent oxygen deprivation switch from respiration to fermentation. Cellular regeneration and good health is closely linked with your body’s ability to transport oxygen across the cell membrane – a primary function of organic sulfur.

There are two ways your body cells transport oxygen. The primary transport moves red blood cells from your lungs to your extracellular fluids. The secondary means involves sulfur aiding oxygen to move from the blood and lymph systems into individual cells. MSM is also a part of the detoxification process, aiding proper and timely cellular regeneration, and healthy manufacture of amino acids. If the building block of all life, the individual cell, is not working properly, then the larger organs are also not working well.

Without organic sulfur, most digestive processes are impaired, and fitness programs are not efficient. Without MSM, your body will not work properly. Scientific studies show that chlorine and fluorine are detrimental to oxygen transport. Despite this evidence, they are being added to water and toothpaste to make our teeth “healthier” and our water “more pure” and free from bacterial infestation. Chlorine and fluorine are poisonous and when it comes to oxygen and sulfur, these poisons block their effective use.
