NHS30: Low-fat Diet is Bad for Your Health?27.02.2013
by Life Enthusiast Staff
What Are Good Fats... and Bad Fats?
We all need LOTS of the right fats (good ones) and very little of the wrong fats (bad fats).
Just say "NO" to hydrogenated and fried fats.
It's critical that you understand that a low-fat diet is detrimental to your health.
Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are Good Fats
Several fatty acids cannot be made by your body and must be supplied through your diet. These are called essential fatty acids (EFAs), and they play a critical role in your health and vitality.
Found in high concentrations in your brain, EFAs aid the transmission of nerve impulses, and are needed for normal brain function. Research has shown that a deficiency of EFAs leads to an impaired ability to learn and to recall information, among others.
Symptoms of Potential EFA Deficiency
- Dry or lackluster skin
- Small bumps on back of upper arms
- Dandruff or cradle cap
- Dry, lackluster or brittle hair
- Soft, fraying, splitting or brittle fingernails
- Slow growing fingernails
- Dry eyes, mouth and or throat
- Inadequate vaginal lubrication
- Menstrual cramps and premenstrual symptoms
- Excessive ear wax
- Excessive thirst
- Allergies (eczema, asthma, hay fever, hives)
- Crave fat and fatty foods
- Stiff and/or painful joints.
Omega-3 and Omega-6 EFAs are increasingly recognized as important to human health. But they will only maintain their status as "good" fats when ingested in proper balance. Unfortunately, most Western diets today are high in omega-6s, and low in omega-3s.
EFA supplements need to take your dietary habits into account, and supply higher amount of omega-3s than omega-6s, if you are indeed eating the typical diet.
We need to reduce the bad fats, and increase the good ones.
And What Are Bad Fats?
Undesirable monounsaturated fats (in partially hydrogenated oils) are abundant in our society's diet, appearing in almost all processed foods. They promote your body's harmful inflammatory response, which is the cause of many disorders, from arthritis and autoimmune disorders, to diabetes and heart disease, and of course obesity.
So THE BEST Fat Is...
Pure Virgin Coconut Oil.
Our coconut supplier owns a USDA Certified Organic coconut plantation in the Philippines, enabling us to provide coconuts that are harvested at the perfect age. They are delivered on the same day to the processing plant, which is located inside the coconut plantation.
The coconuts are then husked, grated, and the fresh coconut meat is cold-pressed and filtered. This process preserves the live enzymes, lauric acid, and all the other immune system building nutrients. Except for picking and opening the nut, there is little human handling in our process.
Stainless steel mechanical equipment is used in order to provide a sanitary controlled environment in the processing plant. The coconut oil is strained and immediately bottled. No chemicals or preservatives are added. You only get pure unadulterated Virgin Coconut Oil.
To your health!
