The best method these two experts of alternative health know of at the moment is something that should be familiar to LEC readers by now: Magnesium. Here’s what Dr. Mansmann, an expert in the relation between migraines and magnesium, has to say:

“It’s very likely that magnesium deficiency is a widespread cause of migraines. Studies show that many people don’t even come close to getting the Daily Value of magnesium, which is 400 milligrams. On a daily basis, 30 to 40 percent of American people take less than 75 percent of the Daily Value of magnesium.”

Migraines appear because of changes in the oxygen levels flowing through the blood stream to the brain. Identifying the causes of these changes can tell us a lot about what we can do to prevent migraines. Muscle contractions and excess serotonin are likely suspects, since aspirin in known to inhibit the effects of serotonin, though this doesn’t stop the migraine from returning.

On the other hand, 85-90% of migraine patients treated with magnesium show promising results. While the reason is still not known, more research is being done all the time that will illuminate these groundbreaking findings.
