Digestive Flora: Podcast Episode #24
This podcast episode is truly important for proper intestinal health. Join Martin Pytela and Scott Paton as they explore the wide range of bacteria found in the intestines and explain what you can do to stay digestively healthy. Why is this important? Only for the simple reason that the intestinal tract is where a good deal of the nutrients found in the foods you eat gets absorbed into the bloodstream. If it isn’t functioning properly, it’s not going to matter how healthy you eat!

Most bacterium in the intestine functions best when present in certain ratios. Many bacteria balance each other out in a delicate equilibrium. The flora in our intestines manages the extraction of nutrients from all the food coming in. This beneficial flora can be damaged, as is often the case, by other bacteria that are there in excess. This occurs the same way acid rain or a drought damages a rainforest.
When the equilibrium gets off balance, the flora get dysfunctional and start to do damage. The name for this is dysbiosis. One of the most common symptoms is irregular bowel movements. It can happen in the form of either diarrhea or constipation, depending on the damage done.
Most of the water we drink now is chlorinated and this contributes to the problem as chlorine kills many of these bacteria. The good bacteria in our intestine are always more fragile than the bad bacteria, so they are the first to die. Antibiotics do the exact same thing. They are designed to kill intestinal flora. Doctors commonly tell you to eat plenty of yogurt or other milk products to combat this, but it is not sufficient to undone to damage.
This is why I recommend one of the many of the wonderful products on the market to rebalance the intestine. Most people’s large intestine is simply loaded with unnecessary stuff. Health food stores carry lactobacillus, and the LEC offers a great product which I highly recommend called Strata Flora. After consuming a bottle over the course of a month, I guarantee you will notice a huge difference. After this, you just need to keep maintenance up with a reduced dose.
