Q: If so many other nutrients are so vital, then what is the point of the RDA?
A: You might look at it this way. The RDA is an old-ideology-based system which is OK for a quick identification of a few of the basic nutrients, which when lacking result in fairly rapid disease conditions – like Vitamin C for scurvy, Folic Acid to prevent birth defects, or B-12 and Iron for anemia.
