Podcast 083: Algae Health Secrets

Scott and Martin talk about the concept that good nutrition is not just about what you eat. It’s also about what nutrition your body can absorb, assimilate and use.

Critical point – certain nutrients get absorbed in different parts of your gut. If you swallow a hard-as-rock cheap vitamin pills, they can stay that hard and not get absorbed at all.

Starting with the letter A… “A” is for Algae, existing at the beginning of the food chain, provides nutrition in its simplest form, balanced whole food nutrition that is easily digested and absorbed. Life Enthusiast has many different Algae products for wonderful cleansing and nourishment.

Healthy nutrition we need to live well.

Podcast 083: Algae Health Secrets

This is the Life Enthusiast podcast Restoring Vitality to You and to the Planet. Let’s join our host Scott Paton and Martin Pytela now.

Scott: Welcome back everybody you’re listening to the life enthusiast co-op pod cast restoring vitality to you and to the planet. I’m your co-host Scott Paton along with Martin Pytela, hey Martin how are you doing this fine evening.

Martin: This evening is going fine, how about this we get into the letter A, like Sesame Street.

Scott: We are moving along. A is for Algae and actually what I think is important not only what algae brings to the body but it’s more than just that because one of the concepts that you and I were talking about before we went on the air was it’s not just what you eat but also what the body can absorb and does absorb and assimilate and uses of what you eat.

Martin: Absolutely critical point because different vitamins or nutrients get absorbed in different parts of your gut so for instance certain vitamins get absorbed in the first twelve inches of your small intestine after the stomach well if you just swallowed one of those super-extruded hard-as-rock one-a-day vitamin pills that thing is still as solid as a brick when it gets there. Nothing got absorbed.

Scott: One of the things I was thinking that we were talking about before and I know I do it is how often do people basically take three chews and swallow the food whole.

Martin: And wash it down with some soda so it goes down quick. I just got reminded of a visual summertime hot dog eating contest and how many you can get down in one minute.

Scott: Or is faster than everybody else and then there is no chewing or very little involved and chewing is very important for getting the food in a way that we can actually absorb the nutrients in it.

Martin: Exactly you are supposed to chew twenty times on every bite that you put in your mouth and most of us don’t because we have been living in these short breaks between lessons in our childhood. You have a ten minute break to wolf down your snack or you have a fifteen minute lunch break to do whatever you have to do and feed yourself.

Scott: You’re running around doing all these chores and you are trying to wolf down something you picked up at a fast food joint.

Martin: That is actually an excellent selling point for good quality blenders.

Scott: Yes because they actually start that process for us right.

Martin: Well they micronized the foods in fact the high powered blenders not only do they chow up the food in a way that you would expect to chop up with your teeth, the high powered blenders with dull blades actually break the cellular walls so they expose the content of the cells to the outside so you stand a greater chance of absorbing even more then you would get out of regular chewing.

Scott: I was going to say let’s get back to algae and why is that an important nutrient for people to consider?

Martin: Well algae is the smallest plant living form, it’s one step between a living creature that is mobile and a photosynthesis using creature so it takes sun light and carbon dioxide and creates chlorophyll so this is a plant but a plant without roots, it lives in water and it’s so tiny and it’s a single celled organism that live in colonies. When you are eating this it is the tiniest possible thing, a single celled organism.

Scott: It’s kind of like what we were talking about before, rather than taking a chunk of food and not chewing it and breaking it down this is actually food that already is broken down.

Martin: That’s right and one of them chlorella is one of the popular ones, it comes in two popular species one is the thin cell wall chlorella that is readily absorbed and the other is the sun chlorella, the Latin name pyrenoidosa, which has thick walls that needs to be cracked and that one is known as the cracked cell chlorella and we use both of those in our superfoods.

Scott: So what are some of the benefits of using the algae as a supplement or part of a diet?

Martin: What would you expect to have nutrition improve in your body; I mean what is it, that makes your body run well versus not run well. The question would better be put what would it not do for you? Number one increase your strength, increase your endurance help you nourish and heal all your bodily fluid especially your blood.

Scott: So boost your immune system.

Martin: Yes and improve on your eye sight, improve on your muscle tone, improve on your moods and mental state, all of these things because when you deliver good nutrients into your body your cells are healthy and when your cells are healthy everything else follows.

Scott: Everything else starts working better.

Martin: Yes so it is the most fundamental concept. I guess we can just end our recording because we have already said it. We could just end this whole series because all we would have to say is eat algae, everything will be fine. It’s not the answer to everything but it sure makes a big difference. People are having such positive reactions to the superfoods we make because the algae represents a fairly sizable portion in it along with, you know here is the other part the algae doesn’t provide everything. They only absorb the nutrients from the water in which they are grown. So if the producer didn’t supply a decent level of nutrients in the water then the algae would be weak. And of course we supply alfalfa which is grown on the land and wheat grass and barley grass and other things that round it all out so you can have different minerals and nutrients all present at the same time. If I had to choose this one thing, one nutrient that I had to be stuck with for the rest of my life I would choose algae.

Scott: Actually on the Life Enthusiast web site we have some testimonials of people who have tried the algae product and they were very interesting. One was an elderly person named Rod who lives on the gold coast of Australia, if you don’t mind I would just like to share with our listeners what he has to say Martin?

Martin: Of course.

Scott: He says I spent two years recovering from a serious illness, after two brain operations, weeks in the hospital and months on intravenous antibiotics my body was very depleted, my muscles were wasted their mass drastically reduced and in need of rebuilding. In the first eighteen months of recovery I was taking many supplements, herbs and using essential oils they were all helping immensely but I still felt weak and had very little stamina. Six months ago I started taking some algae for its nutritional value, I wanted a balanced food for daily consumption high in B vitamin and minerals well it surpassed my critical expectations easily the results have been excellent. Within two weeks my energy and stamina had definitely increased, two months later my body was finally developing muscle strength. My health improves everyday and now there is a huge light at the end of the tunnel. Algae is the real thing and it has helped me tremendously and I highly recommend it.

Martin: That is totally up to the point; you know my own journey from the depths of despair started with algae. There was this fellow in 1986 who introduced me to blue green algae and he brought the blue green algae and said you ought to try this and that’s what started it for me. Once I started eating the algae I started to change the way that I was looking at the world. You know it’s a strange thing algae is primordial food, it’s the oldest plant on the planet, you know millions and millions of years old life form and it just brings some basic connection to the consciousness of the planet so as you ingest it, it’s just universally helping- at least it was happening for me – it was helping me tune into the original purpose for my life, what I needed to do and it was clearing my consciousness. I have another quote for you, from Dr. Stanley Bass, a naturopath, a chiropractic doctor and PHD, “The closer the food comes to the natural state which it occurs or the closer we come to its raw, unrefined form, the higher its quality. In this condition all the enzymes are found intact, the amino acids are in their finest form, the minerals, vitamins, trace elements, carbohydrates and life force itself are present. This life force is in turn capable of reproducing tissue which is full of life and longer lasting in structure. Eating organically grown, unprocessed foods such as vegetables, nuts and seeds provide the body with nutrients that are free of herbicides, pesticides and preservatives. Algae is nature’s most basic food which is at the beginning of the food chain and its perfect nutrition contains more protein than any other whole food and this super nutrition provides rich naturally recurring chlorophyll. Here comes the big statement: chlorophyll has been shown to enhance our entire health and boost your immune system. This amazing food can also help purify your blood and promote intestinal regularity and naturally help heal your body. So it’s a miracle of advertising that people don’t consider algae a more important source of nutrition. You hear snide remarks oh pond scum, I just don’t get it. I don’t get the steak and potato culture that looks at this most nourishing resource and talks it down so in my world get some chlorella, get some spirulina, get some blue green algae and live longer and healthier.

Scott: So there has been someone else writing about algae recently?

Martin: Oh yeah I mean many people have spent a lot of effort on understanding the mysteries of life. Dr Gabriel Cousens is a famous natural healer, he is a healing center. He calls it the Tree of Life Rejuvenation center in Arizona and he is quite famous for his work with the algae. He says as a physician working with thousands of clients I find that algae helps to restore overall biochemical balance by nourishing the body at the cellular level. The positive response from the use of algae has been extraordinary and a wonderful unique blend for peak performance of the body mind and spirit. It should be included in any detoxifying and rejuvenation program. I take it myself daily. Actually Gabriel Cousens has been specifically promoting the blue green algae that come from the Klamath flake. There has been quite a controversy about the Klamath flake and the blue green algae coming from there some nutritionists are just full of fire just telling the world that they should eat chlorella and spirulina and others are saying that it’s the blue green algae that is great. So I don’t know if they are for real or if they are speaking from their economic interests, we support both. We sell the E3 Live algae which is actually a great product because it is shipped fresh frozen and we also use the chlorella, spirulina combination in the Exsula Superfoods, everybody is welcome to try it, it them both and see which works for you.

Scott: And that’s part of the key too, different people react differently to different nutrients and what their body needs to be in optimal health so it is often a good idea to try different things to see what works for you.

Martin: Yes and I am a big believer in variety.

Scott: I think, too if you always take the same thing then your body gets used to it and three years later it doesn’t have the same impact it had in the beginning.

Martin: So I could just be giving more quotes from the long list of algae supporters but here is the bottom line, it’s rich in chlorophyll and we all need chlorophyll, it’s rich in minerals and we all need minerals, it’s rich in amino acids and those are the basic building blocks of all life and it’s rich in lipid soluble nutrients meaning fat soluble like vitamin A, E and other essential fatty acids but the thing that is really the pinnacle of it all are the brain nutrients that come in the algae. Endorphins, when you get nutrients that feed your brain, endorphins release in your brain and you start thinking better thoughts, happier thoughts, more positive thoughts. and that’s what happens, it’s critical especially if you are not feeling well and living this toxic urban life where you are waking up tired and miserable and you need to pop a pill, an upper of some sort to just make it through your day, or a cup of coffee to just start it up or something to put you in the mood to make the cup of coffee. I mean there are so many people who are living these desperate lives and they won’t admit it to the public but the prescription statistics tell the story.

Scott: That’s right so put away your prescriptions and have some algae, pop a couple of capsules of algae. Take two algae and call me in the morning.

Martin: Call me in the evening because by the time the day goes by you will be saying it’s amazing and then by morning you will wake up and say I wonder what glorious thing is going happen for me today.

Scott: One thing you need to be careful of too is that you don’t take it later in the evening because you won’t get any sleep. That happened to me a couple times because i had some of the Excela 50 at eight in the evening and you know at two in the morning I was wide awake and I was like why am I awake and I realized oh the Excela. I always have it first thing in the morning and I find my morning is very productive and I fly through it and I can handle anything that comes up in my work day, it’s just wonderful.

Martin: Right when we eat this food we are capable of working mentally. So give it to your kids they will operate better at school, eat it yourself because you will be more alert at the office or whatever you do, I couldn’t praise it higher. I have to repeat the same thing; if there was only one food I had to be stuck with I want to be stuck with algae.

Scott: Well I think that’s a good place to end this particular podcast episode Martin.
