Podcast 163: Pain Drugs and Better Solutions

Martin talks about a commercial he recently saw on TV for the drug Lyrica – a good-looking young woman in pain is prescribed this drug and suddenly the soft music shows her frolicking in a meadow.  But the voice-over says LYRICA is not for everyone. LYRICA may cause serious, even life threatening, allergic reactions. Stop taking LYRICA and call your doctor right away if you have any signs of a serious allergic reaction. Some signs are swelling of your face, mouth, lips, gums, tongue or neck or if you have any trouble breathing, or have a rash, hives or blisters. Oh and you may get some suicidal behavior.

Martin goes to their website and learns that this drug merely deadens the nerves so you don’t feel pain.  It does nothing about removing the cause of the pain. Yet this is a very popular drug.
