Podcast 106: Heart Health
Comedian and actor Robin Williams was doing a cross-country stand-up comedy tour when he had to cancel and go into the hospital because he was experiencing shortness of breath.
Martin explains that Robin needs to change his lifestyle. He needs to detoxify and alkalize.
Here’s the bad thing… just because they did five pipes around his heart so it can start beating better, they did not do anything to the rest of the arteries in his body. Does it mean that the inflammation throughout his entire system is somehow going to be abated? Of course not. Poor Robin. Martin wishes he could be Robin’s buddy to give him advise… listen in to hear for yourself.
Podcast 106: Heart Health
Scott: Welcome back everybody you are listening to the Life Enthusiast co-op podcast restoring vitality to you, the internet and the planet I am your co-host Scott Paton along with Martin Pytela, hi Martin how are you doing?
Martin: I am doing great I am waiting for the day where we are going to go beyond the bounds of the planet and go galactic on the whole thing.
Scott: Restoring vitality to you and to the galaxy. We have Mork and Mindy as special guest’s today folks. nanu, nanu. Hopefully you all know who I am referring too and Oh Robin Williams who played Mork in Mork and Mindy in the 70’s or 80’s was doing a cross country tour you know a stand up comedy tour and had to cancel because he had to go into the hospital for something.
Martin: Yeah he was experiencing shortness of breath in other words he was so acidic that there wasn’t enough oxygen getting to his cells and his mitochondria at the cellular level weren’t getting enough oxygen to burn the glucose that was available. We have discussed this a lot I mean I am not his doctor but I can’t second guess it for real there could be something else going on but I would bet donuts to dollars that which one is more a dollar or a donut these days.
Scott: It is pretty close. I was going to say I bet donuts to dollars that he is eating donuts.
Martin: Well who knows what he is doing to make himself acidic you know coffee, stress, staying up late, recreational drugs you know living in an apartment in the city and not going out for a walk in nature and all of that.
Scott: Yeah that is kind of wild I was just checking up on him and he needs heart surgery.
Martin: No what he really needs is to change his lifestyle, he needs to detox and go and get himself deacidified and alkalized remember the book we talked about not long ago “alkalize or die”.
Scott: Yeah I do and I just looked up the news and the first headline says Robin Williams needs heart surgery which is why I said it however there is an update and it says Mr Williams has had surgery and he was released from the hospital today following heart surgery and he had breathing problems after he collapsed at his home last week but he was spotted walking around in Miami Beach this week get well Robin. Sorry to hear Robin that your health has been compromised and you had to have surgery particularly for your heart.
Martin: Yes it is very sad because this same thing happened to Bill Clinton right I mean a vigorously healthy man and the next thing you know he has to have a quintuple heart bypass surgery. Here is the bad thing just because they did five pipes around your heart to resupply your heart so that it can start beating better have they done anything to the rest of the arteries in your body.
Scott: No that’s right.
Martin: Yeah so does it mean that the inflammation that is throughout your entire system is somehow going to be abated, no of course not. Poor Robin he is getting the wrong kind of advice I wish I could be his buddy, I like the guy.
Scott: Yeah he is hilarious so anyway Robin is alive and well right now and unless he makes changes well he hasn’t snorted cocaine in a long time.
Martin: This is not the cocaine now it is the inflammation right. Well we do have something for that it is called Recovery and it is phenomenal it just puts out the internal fires better than anything we know and then there is this other product we talked about the company just last week called MAX international they have a phenomenal product absolutely phenomenal for oxidative damage which is the glutathione, glutathione is the universal recycler of the antioxidants it is like the quarterback in the antioxidants team so everyone has to hand everything over to the glutathione the quarterback before the next play can happen because when vitamin C jump on something to extinguish it, it has to hand over the electron the free electron so now the vitamin C no longer has the free electron so it is useless. So it needs to return back to home base have a chat with glutathione and have himself repaired to become an active vitamin C so it can go back and do it again. So if you don’t have sufficient levels of glutathione you will suffer from oxidative stress which well to illustrate oxidative stress is that Marlboro man look you know when your skin has aged beyond your years when you have this weathered look well you know when people smoke and drink at the same age at the high school reunion and one of them has been a very avid drinker and smoker he will look a lot older than his class mates well not only the outside but the inside will look a lot like that as well.
Scott: And that is one of the reasons why I mean the outside is just reflecting what is going on on the inside right.
Martin: Right and it is the oxidative stress reflected in the appearance.
Scott: So when you talk about oxidative stress what comes to my mind is the athletes I mean they are working so hard competing at a high level and everything else there is tons of oxidative damage that occurs and there is this great commercial on TV about when you sweat a lot of stuff comes out of your body minerals and electrolytes and everything else so they talk about restoring electrolytes to your body by drinking their fluids and I thought that was kind of interesting and something we should talk about.
Martin: Yes indeed the body’s electrolytes that are a very important part of the mineral topic we have been talking about lately. Well you have two types of electrolytes the negatively charged and the positively charged and in the positively charged you have sodium and potassium and calcium.
Scott: And your favorite one that is magnesium that is in there to.
Martin: That is right that is the major group and well you know if you have too much sodium it is a problem for people who have high blood pressure but that usually happens not because of too much salt but because of too much cortisol that retains the sodium in the body. Confusion, convulsion and coma, not a pretty picture. If you have low sodium, I remember low sodium I was working very physically in a saw mill in my 20’s heavy work and if we didn’t take salt with our drinks we would have cramps and all kinds of problems. Symptoms can be mild such as tiredness but may lead to convulsions and coma that would be the sodium. The potassium, muscle weakness, paralysis, inability to breathe, we talked about the potassium deficiency two shows ago you know that listlessness, inability to focus and acne and dandruff, you name it the interesting thing about calcium we already covered but what the heck we can go over some of it quickly. You know hypocalcaemia you know not enough calcium, muscle spasms you know the Charlie horse type of things in your legs not a good thing, sudden hypocalcaemia is sudden vomiting and comma, that’s a nasty one and calcium phosphate crystals in the kidneys and the eye.
Scott: Ah that doesn’t sound like it would be very comfortable.
Martin: No those are the kidney stones and I forget the name what happens to the eye cornea when it goes all hardened?
Scott: Cataracts.
Martin: Cataracts I believe is the word for it well the interesting thing is the negatively charged electrolytes you know this is probably worth reading it straight as it is the toxicity of chloride results not from the chloride itself but from the fact that the chloride occurs as the acid hydrogen chloride or hydrochloric acid so if you over dose on that you will end up with acidosis and that is a kidney disease and the release of acid in the urine and here we have weakness, headache, nausea, cardiac arrest and that is what we were describing as far as the acidosis is concerned right. This is just too much acid in the body so this headache, nausea and weakness that is what poor Robin was experiencing. On the other hand if you have low chloride levels you have paralysis and the other thing in this category is the phosphates right so your kidneys so if your kidneys don’t excrete the phosphate into your urine you will have impaired function of the parathyroid hormone, phosphate poisoning and again paralysis, convulsions and cardiac arrest. This reminds me I think we mentioned it in one of our previous podcasts this woman running a marathon and hydrating herself very conscientiously and collapsed at the finish line and died not long after, 28 year old women dead, too much drinking, too much water she needed the salts. I don’t know if we want to diss the commercial I don’t know what we want to call them the electrolyte replenishing companies I certainly have an issue with the companies that have a lot of sugar in their drinks it is like a green colored sugar water with a teeny bit of useful minerals. Instead it would so much sense to use something like the miracle 2 Neutralizer drops because they supply the major minerals or the Adya minerals they also supply that really well or the MMP we have about ten different sources of minerals here in Life Enthusiast co-op set up.
Scott: Yeah the trick is to get the minerals into the body in a way that the body can use.
Martin: Right you know the major minerals that we just mentioned the calcium, potassium and so on they can be absorbed in their ionic form so it is fairly easy to get those in, it’s the trace minerals that become a bit of a challenge. Here is an interesting quote bicarbonate metabolism involves several compounds when dietary starches, sugars and fats are broken down for energy production carbon dioxide is created. Much of this carbon dioxide CO2 spontaneously converts into carbonic acid which is H2CO3 one water and one carbon dioxide chemically bonded together and some of this carbonic acid spontaneously converts into bicarbonate which is HCO3- plus one hydrogen H+ so eventually almost every molecule of carbon dioxide produced in the body whether in the form of carbon dioxide, carbonic acid or bicarbonate must convert back to carbon dioxide in order to leave by the lungs during normal breathing so to continue if you hold your breath carbon dioxide cannot escape from the lungs but it continues to be generated in the body so that will increase the production of carbonic acid which will start to break down and disassociate in your body which will increase the hydrogen ions in the plasma which gives rise to acidosis. So if you test for serum bicarbonate and you test for acidosis which is a common pH test you can determine where you are at.
Scott: Right and I think that is important to know where we are in terms of acidity and alkalinity right.
Martin: Right yes well most everybody in the western society unless they are living a really good lifestyle are going to be too acidic and when you are too acidic your kidneys cannot keep up to get rid of the toxins and they need to find some place to put the toxins so they need to create fat so you park the toxins in the fat so that is new fat cells in the body and the cycle continues.
Scott: if you are acidic you are more prone to that particular problem?
Martin: Yes you are prone to being overweight and you are prone to having just about everything being wrong with you, you know like diminished athletic capacity. You know an acidic athlete will tear their muscles and be injury prone much more so than an alkaline athlete you know you will rip a muscle or cause yourself a tendon break or who knows what else because of the pH balance in your lymphatic system this is just one big circle right. We keep going back to the basics over and over again. It comes down to only two things presence of toxins and absence of nutrients so if we could number one stop the inflow of toxins and number two eliminate the ones we already have number three find the nutrients that we require so that we can correct the deficiencies we will go on indefinitely.
Scott: Yeah wouldn’t that be nice?
Martin: Yeah!
Scott: At a high level too.
Martin: Oh yeah at a high level of functioning. I think I need to change my lifestyle Scott I am just spending too much time sitting in an office chair talking on the telephone.
Scott: Yeah you’ve got to get out there and get some fresh air and some electrolytes into your body.
Martin: That’s right and good nutrition; I have that, I really do. I feel quite lucky to be able to actually get these superfoods into us.
Scott: Yeah me too.
Martin: So how are we going to bring it together for someone who wants to understand well on the Life Enthusiast co-op website in the health education in the minerals section there is an article called Electrolyte Tests. In there, there is actually the definition and description of all the normal results that you should have if you go to a doctor or a lab and have yourself tested, you know like blood tests done. These are the values that you should have. The normal range and what it should be between.
Scott: Holy water sacred oil?
Martin: Still not it.
Scott: Hydration and magnesium?
Martin: How can it be that I am not seeing it right from the first moment, oh there it is I just found it. It is called Magnesium for Youth and Health and that article near the bottom has a table that shows the reference range for all the different levels of minerals that a person should have and what is really important about that is that not only do you need to have your calcium level right but you need to have your ratios right which is phosphorus over calcium, magnesium over calcium, magnesium over phosphorus and potassium over calcium each one of them relating to one another needs to be in the right range because if they are not you are going to have illness.
Scott: What is interesting about this person or they just show typical results is how out of whack all the electrolytes were and after four weeks of foot soaks with the magnesium how in range almost all of them became.
Martin: That’s right that was a most remarkable study that they had done and all you needed to do was get yourself a gallon of the magnesium oil or five pounds of the bath crystals and do the foot soaks every day. Well what you are doing, you are doing your bath soaks often enough and it would be a nice thing to check to see how your electrolytes are doing now.
Scott: Should have checked them before I started.
Martin: Yeah we never think of checking this we never take the before picture and you just notice oh look I am looking better and all this whatever. I know I miss so many opportunities when I start testing a new product it helps tremendously and I am thinking oh I should have taken a picture of that.
Scott: That is a fascinating article.
Martin: I would just recommend to everyone that explains the importance of thee minerals overall and how they relate to one another and how deficiency in one will skew the functioning of the body and all the ratios of all of the others.
Scott: Cool so Martin if someone wanted to learn more about electrolytes and minerals and maybe their own particular situation because we are all unique how could they get a hold of you?
Martin: Lets have them call at 1-866-543-3388 or come to the website at www.life-enthusiast.com and go to health education minerals and there is great information carefully chosen and selected or just head into the shopping cart and buy my stuff.
Scott: There you go get some of those minerals into you.
