Let’s try to take the idea of alternative health back to the basics. What exactly is alternative health and why is it preferable to our accepted medical establishment methods? The number one reason that alternative health practices focus on the cause of health issues and solve problems or deficiencies that common medical practice may not.

Magnesium is a great example of this. Magnesium is required by the body for proper cellular health (along with calcium, sodium and potassium), and the other important ones like phosphorus, iron, iodine, sulfur, zinc and more.

How many times have you heard about the importance of calcium? Is rare that you will ever hear any public service announcements about magnesium. This is puzzling because magnesium supports healing, regeneration and maintenance of all living cells. It allows for deeper rest through the soothing of the nervous system and is very important to the production of amino acids, needed for virtually every chemical reaction happening in the body.

Scott Paton: Welcome back you are listening to the Life Enthusiast Co-op Podcast. I am your co-host Scott Paton along with Martin Pytela. Hey Martin how are you doing today?

Martin Pytela: Its another good day Scott.

Scott Paton: Excellent, excellent so what is new?

Martin Pytela: You know I keep thinking we are now recording the podcast #20 if my memory serves me right.

Scott Paton: That’s correct.

Martin Pytela: And we have been talking about increasingly complex and esoteric bits and pieces of the nutritional aspects and I am thinking we need to remind ourselves of the basics. Not long ago I listened to Tony Robbins interviewing coach John Wooden. John Wooden was the most successful basketball coach, there was. LA Lakers I think it was the name of the club that he coached in his tenure, I think he was there for 10 years and his team won the title 9 times.

Scott Paton: Wow.

Martin Pytela: I mean something like that I don’t remember the exact detail because this was about 10 years ago when I listened to that interview but gist of that interview was this. Robbin was asked, what does the coach do? And he says coach reminds the players of the basics always of the basics. He would bring them on to the court and have them shoot hoops just from the one spot they penalty shots or that the standard lay up over and over and over until these people just simply could not forget it they would be able to just do it in their sleep they do so well and that’s what made his team great, that’s they actually had the basics stuff completely cold and right.

Scott Paton: That’s really interesting because I was watching the Toronto Raptors play the LA Lakers in the second game of their NBA playoffs last night and there was a foul and the Raptor guy, there was like just seconds or minutes left in the game, not a lot of time and they were up by two points which in basketball is not much. So the guy goes and he shoots and he misses and I thought first of all I thought the guy is under huge pressure, its late in the game he makes his two, he is out there are by four and that’s like very difficult to comeback from right and then he made his second shot and I thought you really in no situation need to be able to get your mind right out of it, and just let your body do what it normally does right.

Martin Pytela: Absolutely. Yeah if you are not running on automatic you have no chance there.

Scott Paton: Yeah, and that obviously wasn’t first time and then regrouped and he hit the second one. And they won the game, but it was very exciting.

Martin Pytela: Yeah, okay I am glad you enjoyed you enjoyed yourself. so going driving this analogy back into what I would like to do for our listeners is to remind them of the solid basics that they have to do in order to keep healthy and these are enzymes, minerals I mean it’s on our website #1 first cleanse, #2 nourish, #3 balance. In the nourish category I want to say this. In North America all of the soils are deficient in magnesium. Every piece of grocery wherever it is that you are buying is deficient in magnesium just from that get go. So if you are not supplementing with magnesium you are deficient. Period. Get it and in fact the statics show that over 60% are severely deficient and about 80% are somewhat deficient.

Scott Paton: Wow, I didn’t realize it was that high.

Martin Pytela: Yeah, it is just astounding.

Scott Paton: So its kind of like in the old days when gone on these wooden ships and try to sail around the world and they ended up starving and well, actually not starving they had lots of food.

Martin Pytela: It was the scurvy that got them.

Scott Paton: It’s just my point and it wasn’t till I realize that they needed to have Vitamin C or eat citrus fruits and that sort of stuff they were able to get away with it right?

Martin Pytela: That’s right.

Scott Paton: And it was such a simple thing to do. I mean that was a major disease in those days I believe.

Martin Pytela: Oh yeah well it was a significant concern well actually like Henry VIII, he was the rich man, so he ate the rich man’s food, not many vegetables, if any vegetables they were cooked I mean that man had phenomenally bad health I mean he died of ill health, open festering sores on his legs. I mean it was ugly but that’s another story let’s just get back to the basics. I would like to talk about the fact that magnesium is involved in great many processes in the human body. I just want to run off some of the signs of deficiency. #1 muscle tightness, muscle twitches, fatigue, in-coordination, insomnia, muscle cramps, depression, confusion, attention deficit, anxiety or unable to get over stimuli, irregular bowel, either diarrhea or constipation, vertigo, poor memory all that were symptoms of deficiency I mean people are thinking I am just not feeling right, or whatever but it could be simple as get some magnesium.

Scott Paton: Right but the problem with magnesium is that what happens if we try to take a supplement of it?

Martin Pytela: Well, if you are not deficient you can take an oral supplement like magnesium orotate, or citrate I mean those are very in expensive. Magnesium citrate is like $5 for one month supply in supplements if you take it orally. The problem is that if once you get deficient its really hard to climb backup because if you take a therapeutic dose of magnesium your digestive system will reject it. You will have diarrhea, it just follows. I mean the most common way to induce a bowel movement is to take a spoonful of Epsom salts and a glass of water.

Scott Paton: Right, right.

Martin Pytela: It works, it works totally. So of course if you trying to replenish your magnesium deficient body you can’t do it because the dosages that you need to take will cause your body to just … well I mean you can’t leave your home because if you take enough of it, you can’t stay away from the bathroom.

Scott Paton: Right, right also magnesium and calcium they have there is a certain relationship there too right.

Martin Pytela: Oh, yeah that’s an important relationship in fact most people don’t understand it. The main stream media keeps pushing calcium take your calcium to for healthy bones, but without magnesium the calcium actually is not held in the bone, magnesium acts sort of like the mortar to the bricks that the calcium would represent.

Scott Paton: Right so a lot like I was going to I actually have a powdered magnesium, calcium supplement right and its in the right proportions, but that means my calcium is high my magnesium is low and I am taking something is in the right proportion my calcium is going to be higher even if my magnesium comes up and it still isn’t going to be in that 3rd part of a way you talked about earlier the balance right.

Martin Pytela: Yeah, and even though you are taking it, you are not absorbing it not retaining it, and its not going into your bones that’s where it needs to go.

Scott Paton: Right because magnesium is not easily absorbed by the body?

Martin Pytela: Right, so the issue there is of course absorbable, absorbable it must mean that is either taken in that ionic form meaning that its dissolved in water or its taken in a form that’s already chelated which means that it would have to in a form of a plants like orotate, or something like that has already reacted with an amino acid and that’s of course more expensive, but we have Jim Carter and Twilight America have figured out this process, what they did is they found that one day change the structure of water using the Star Chamber technology we do that we actually restructure the water in which we dissolve these magnesium salts and once that happens if that actually penetrates through the skin goes right through the skin into the tissue into the lymphatic system and gets carried to where it needs to go so you don’t have to take it orally.

Scott Paton: And that’s a really cool concept right, because often when we talk about alternative health, its always you know drink this liquid or take these pills or whatever and here is what you are saying is that I can just spend 20 minutes relax in my tub and nice warm water and soft music and its go ahh and I am actually giving myself a ton of magnesium.

Martin Pytela: That’s right well not a ton …

Scott Paton: Not a ton but …

Martin Pytela: But, we put we advise taking about a quarter cup to half a cup of the magnesium crystals in the bath that represents about 6 bottles of the oral supplement all at once.

Scott Paton: And you don’t have to worry about going to the bathroom?

Martin Pytela: That’s right yeah and it gets in, the other form we had it available and this is the we call it magic oil its not even oil its really a water solution of the magnesium salts but its feels like oil when you put it on, it doesn’t stay sticky very long, but its quite early so it can be used as a massage medium and its just phenomenal. So people who don’t like to take bath, they can get the magic oil and spray it on that’s what I do. I am not a bath tub guy. Scott Paton: How cool. Well I have just got in the habit of before I going to bed is running a bath tub about 3 times a week and just is the hot as I can stand it and I just sit it and I will rather read a book or I will just sit back and think about what I want in my life and that sort of stuff and just gives me time and just kind to be quiet and I really enjoy it, so I mean there are two ways of doing it right and both are excellent.

Martin Pytela: Yeah, I do meditations. I don’t do that in the tub, but it’s a similar kind of an activity like I think its wonderful that you found away to set up pattern in your life that allows you to sort of recapitulate your day and go over what happened and sort it all out.

Martin Pytela: All right its talks about the major diseases of magnesium deficiency and the list is about 25 items – the major ones migraine, hypertension, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, depression, osteoporosis, panic attacks. I don’t want to keep going, but we have a study that Dr. Shealy carried out and the results are published there and they show very clearly it’s just how effective this process had been and how quickly people can get back to very good functioning.

Scott Paton: Cool.

Martin Pytela: So back to basics honestly folks its not complicated, its not high filuting science. Don’t be seduced into thinking that you need to have some isolated ingredients with four letter names that are going to make it all better. The basics is what you need to focus on, you get the basics right, most everything else will follow.
